The head of state remarked that there has been a lot of talk about the policy of multipolarity recently. Some people are concerned about the possibility of the policy worsening Belarus’ relations with the main partners: Russia and China. “Nothing like that. At least as long as I am the president, you have to remember the axiom: there is and there can be no one that is closer to us than Russia and the Russian nation,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

He attributed the stance not only to the orientation that has existed since the Soviet times but also to the economy and the current high level of cooperation between the states. “As you can see, we have never been more united economically. And the last few years have made us realize that like never before,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “If we talk about economy, the cheapest energy resources are in the Russian Federation. Our main space where we can sell our products even in complicated conditions is the Russian Federation. We have fought together and we have secured victories together with the Russian Federation. And at the same time there have been quite many problems. There is no need to hide it…”

“Let alone the military and political cooperation with the Russian Federation. Especially in military affairs. If we had not endured in 2020, we know what would have happened. If Russia had not helped us in this complicated time starting with conventional weapons and nuclear weapons, it is very complicated to imagine what would happen today. We may have been at odds against the NATO bloc in the west,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.

“This is why Russia is the guarantor of our security for us,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that it has nothing in common with criticism regarding the alleged loss of the country’s sovereignty. The president mentioned a recent interview with a foreign reporter, who said that it is written at the Belarusian border “You are entering Kremlin-occupied Belarus”.

“There is nothing like that and there can be nothing like that. We are a sovereign, independent state. And for the last few decades we’ve been working we have proven to the entire world that we are sovereign and independent,” the president stressed.

“And if we consider the matter, one may start wondering whether [Western] lackeys in Ukraine are sovereign and independent,” he noted. In conclusion the head of state urged the ambassadors to abandon any crazy thoughts if they have any. “Times goes on. You will not notice when you become old and ask yourselves the question of against whom and for what you have been fighting. This is why let’s do everything in order for us to be sovereign and independent although it comes at a great cost.”

“Our policy is rooted in reality. Prompted by earth. Whatever anyone may tell me. Both in Russia and in other places I say that neighbors cannot be chosen, they are given by god. And you have to build relations with neighbors,” the head of state said. “It may not be the time for me to break the policy you and I have been building together for these 30 years.”
