Lukashenko to host meeting on potash industry

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko hosted a government meeting on 3 October to discuss the export of Belarusian goods and especially potash fertilizers, BelTA has learned.

The president keeps the situation in the sector constantly on the radar. Earlier this year, Aleksandr Lukashenko held a meeting to discuss the export of Belarusian goods. The issue of port facilities for cargo transshipment was raised then, as well. The main issue for discussion was potash fertilizers.

This issue was also discussed at the level of the head of state a little more than two months ago. Necessary decisions were made and appropriate instructions were given during the meeting.

In September, while on a working visit to Soligorsk, the president discussed the situation in the potash industry with the general director of Belaruskali. According to the head of the company, the enterprise is now operating at 80% of its capacity, and this figure is much higher than the one registered at the beginning of the year.

“Your instruction to make and export at least 8 million tonnes will be fulfilled. We already project it will be done based on the results of January-September,” the Belaruskali CEO stated.

Afterwards, the president decided to hold another discussion of the matter and convened a new meeting at the Palace of Independence.

Opening the meeting, the head of state outlined the topic for discussion, which was the sales of domestic goods in the domestic and foreign markets. “In a narrow sense, we will take a look at it by the example of the sales of potash fertilizers, including the related issues (logistics, ports; we have discussed it more than once). Secondly, these are oil products, including logistics, supplies, and payments,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
