Belarus to cooperate with Rosatom in additive technologies, radioactive waste management

Belarus will develop cooperation with Rosatom in additive technologies and radioactive waste management, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told the media on the sidelines of the Atomexpo International Forum in Sochi on 25 March, BelTA has learned.

According to him, after the completion of the BelNPP construction, the cooperation with Rosatom continues and will be further expanded. This pertains not only to the issues of the NPP operation, technical and scientific support of the project, radioactive waste management, but also includes new areas. “These are additive technologies, digital technologies, storage systems for energy and electric transportation, simulator construction and others. For example, Belarusian enterprise BelRAO is actively cooperating with TVEL on radioactive waste management. Belarus plans to implement a large-scale project for the construction of a modern radioactive waste storage facility, the first stage of which is to be commissioned by 2030. On the sidelines of the Atomexpo forum, the parties will sign a roadmap for training and professional development of specialists to work at the storage facility, as well as those who will be involved in the functioning of the radioactive waste management infrastructure in our country,” Viktor Karankevich said.

Additive technologies, or 3D modeling, in metallurgy is also of big interest to Belarus. Belenergoremnadka is actively working in this area. In cooperation with TVEL, it works out approaches to high-precision manufacturing of various parts. “In general, this area in our country will be expanded with the involvement of industrial enterprises, including through the development of an additive technologies center. The project will be implemented with Rosatom’s support,” the minister said.

The Atomexpo International Forum is the largest exhibition and business platform to discuss the current state of the nuclear industry and launch its further development trends. The forum is attended by heads of key companies of the international nuclear industry, government agencies, international and public organizations, and leading experts.
