Working group handling preparation of draft concept of CIS development to sit in Minsk May 29

The last session of the interstate working group handling the preparation of the draft concept of the CIS development will be held in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on May 29. Prior to it experts will have a session to discuss the document on May 28.

The sessions will focus on the final variant of the draft concept.

As BelTA has been told in the CIS press service, the draft concept envisages evolutional development of the existing structure without pushing through drastic reforms of what has been achieved. The document maps out the main goals of the Commonwealth and general vision of the ways of achieving them, priorities in cooperation, mechanisms of operation of the CIS and organizational improvements.

A reminder, the interstate working group for the preparation of the draft concept of the CIS development was set up in line with a resolution of the council of the heads of state which was held in Minsk last year. The group is composed of representatives of the CIS countries apart for Georgia and Turkmenistan.

The draft concept should be prepared on the basis of the report of the high-level group for the issues regarding the improvement of the CIS efficiency and proposals of the CIS countries by June 1 2007. The document will be adopted at the nest session of the CIS council of the heads of state in Astana.
