Issues on the development of the agricultural sector, introduction of energy-saving technologies and production of agricultural products meeting European standards were high on the agenda of Alexander Lukashenko’s working trip to Brest oblast.
On May 24 the head of state visited the Brest region, BelTA learnt in the presidential press service.
In the next few years Belarus plans to raise efficiency of cattle breeding by constructing cattle-breeding farms under modern resource- and energy-saving projects. While visiting the Brest region, Alexander Lukashenko got familiar with the latest technologies introduced by agricultural company Chernavchitsy.
After hearing out the report delivered by Brest Governor Konstantin Sumar, the Belarusian head of state expressed a positive opinion about the results of the oblast’s livestock farming development. “The indexes are good,” the President said. It is noteworthy that in recent years Brest oblast has been producing milk without relaying on state subsidies.
The Belarus President was also made familiar with the progress in fulfilling the village revival and development programme of the Brest region and oblast.
The project to build the dairy farm Chernavchitsy was developed in 2005. The construction started in December 2005, with the fixed-capital investments as large as Br10.4 billion. The farm is designed to produce up to 7,000 tonnes of milk per annum. The milk yield per cow is meant to exceed 8,500 tonnes annually. Similar farms will be built in every Brest company which reached a 6,000kg milk yield per cow.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko believes it is necessary to work out a strategy for heifer reproduction in the country.
“We should raise good cattle in Belarus on our own. It will save hard currency. We should breed the future elite livestock here and now”, said Alexander Lukashenko.
According to the President, there are plans to increase milk yield in Belarus soon, which is why the demand for heifers will increase. Alexander Lukashenko criticised agrarians for failing to fulfill his instruction to raise a Belarusian cattle breed with a high milk yield. The head of state urged to more actively use foreign experience “where science is coupled with manufacturing to produce a super elite livestock”.
Alexander Lukashenko also pointed to the necessary to raise the farming standards. Certain progress has already been done in the area. Thus, work in many fields and farms have been streamlined.
On May 25, the second day of the president’s visit to Brest oblast, he will get familiar with the new and reconstructed sports facilities of Brest City and take part in the solemn opening of a Rowing Sports Olympic Reserve Centre.
