Lukashenko urges to speed up spring fieldwork

With the current favorable weather conditions we need to accelerate the spring sowing campaign, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during his working visit to Smolevichi District, Minsk Oblast on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

The head of state was briefed on the progress in spring fieldwork and weather conditions. “The recent dry weather let us kick off spring fieldwork virtually everywhere in the country. We need to be more active, get down to work. No need to wait,” he said.

According to Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Krupko, spring sowing will be conducted on the area of more than 2.6 million hectares, including more than 533,000 hectares in Minsk Oblast. Of them 23,500 hectares are in Smolevichi District. In his words, the country's agricultural organizations have been provided with 324,500 tonnes of seeds, or 128% of the demand.

The country's farming companies have 38,800 tractors for spring fieldwork, including 6,500 high-energy tractors, 1,800 grain seeders and 2,800 combined soil tillage units.

Ivan Krupko reported that all the country's regions had started early spring sowing works. The pace of work is good, he added. The minister also said that there are enough mineral fertilizers, machinery and fuel.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that spring fieldwork needs to be fast.
